Converting Flash Courses to HTML5
As the eLearning environment is changing with browsers no longer playing flash files, eLearning courses will need to be updated. Here are a few of recommendations for the conversion I have found with research and experience to help with conversions:
- If using video in a course, video must be an FLV using On2VP codec
- For Captivate Courses- use HTML5 Tracker
- In Captivate go to Window, then click on the HTML5 tracker, this will show you if anything you have built in your course is not compatible with HTML5
- Avoid overlapping audio
- HTML5 does not handle overlapping audio and will play the audio at the same time
- Roller overs (texts and images)
- Text with animations
- Mouse click animation
- Slide transistions
- Audio files attached to invisible objects
- Object effects:
- The unsupported effects are marked with an asterisk (*) in the object effects list. The effects marked with double asterisks (**) are rendered differently in HTML5 output compared to a SWF output.
- Some Effects will not work (so check the tracker). You can convert some FLA source files in Animate CC and convert to an OAM files and reload and see if these work. For example, I think the glow effect doesn’t work.
